I tried for a long time to convince myself that actually I didn't need this top, I tried and I failed, because lets be honest it is one of them tops that we all need in our wardrobe and who was I kidding trying to deny myself that simple little bit of happiness? The sports luxe cross sixties trend is something I have been seeing a lot of on Instagram and across other blogs, the sporty trend is one that caught all our attentions in S/S and has continued to stand it's ground well into A/W and do you know what, I'm all for it! And need I actually discuss the sixties?
This outfit, like many of the other outfits I have been sporting lately is a complete cross over of decades, current trends and personal touches to give it that little unique feel, the jeans and the Dr Martens nod towards Mods, the jacket is so oversized and bad boyesque it stands proudly with the grunge inspired trend that we have seen oh so much of this season and the hat, well thats just a vintage staple no matter which way you look at it - and to think, all these items, have so many backgrounds and connotations but put together work wonders, oh clothes, you make my life.
Now I have always wanted Dr Marten boots and literally only tuck the leap this Autumn to buy myself a pair and oh my god I can not believe how much I have been missing out, and I'm somewhat disappointed in myself for not jumping on this quicker, they are easily one of my favourite purchases this year, and I have to say, it has been a good year in relation to clothes buying, but there is just this little somethin' somethin' about them that makes them stand out for me!
They look good with both dresses and jeans and I can wear them in the rain without my feet getting wet, thats a win win for me! For someone who is very rarely seen in flat shoes, unless I'm in a my trusty pair of black converse, these boots are a little different for me but none the less I love them whole heartedly and I'm already on the hunt for my second pair!
So if you've ended up here as a result of procrastinating well done you, because during the past month I should have been writing numerous essays instead of writing blog posts, but if like me, third year is already killing you slowly and you'd rather run in front of a bus then put pen to paper just know, if you don't do the work you won't pass, so get on your jolly way with doing it... *runs in front of bus*!
If you take anything from the few minutes you've spent here with me, take home the fact that you need a pair of docs in your life and you also need a sporty top to compliment the boots, its common knowledge that good things come in twos, or is it 'good things come to those who wait'? Regardless you get my drift...

Tartan, the pattern that brought a whole new lease of life to the A/W16 catwalks, from Paris to New York we saw this trend been walked down the catwalk by models for Dolce and Gabbana, Balenciaga, all the way through to Calvin Klein! Dresses, skirt, coats you name it they were wearing it and what a pattern it is! This trend as come a long way from the traditional Scottish kilts and I continue to adore it each and every time it hits down!
'Go big or go home' is definitely the motto I use when thinking about Tartan, the red is about as in your face as I could get with this pattern so these Topshop trousers are the best! However looking at these images and how well these trousers are paired with my red hair I think I should start questioning my own heritage because that whole combination is just working way too well for me! Scotland I'm coming for ya!
I don't know about anyone else but when I see tartan, a leather biker jacket and bad ass boots I instantly think about the whole 'Mods' 'Rockers' and 'Skinheads' of the 60's and 70's, now I'm not sure how well they'd take to been all mentioned in the same sentence but I have definitely taken reference from each of them groups of this outfit and married them all together to create one killer stand out look!
Taking points from different generations in fashion is what makes me love clothes, how one piece of fabric or one pattern can symbolise a specific year, or a group of people, or music type, or dance move, or movie; etc etc, the list is truly endless, but that emotion that comes with clothing is always the same, and is what made me fall in love with this whole industry in the first place. 'I wore that when I was your age', is a conversation I, (like I assume many of you reading), have with my mum almost every day, the recyclable nature of fashion means you will probably have something tartan in your wardrobe from the last time it was around, or at least if you don't someone in the family will, because at the end of the day; 'they were all wearing it back in the day'!
Clothes are all about personal expression, on a regular, more then likely, daily basis, someone will tell me that they like what I'm wearing, but would never want to wear it themselves, I've become accustomed to it, I wear the things that other people run away from and for me there is nothing better then that! I like having fun with trends and mixing them up, fashion should be about how you feel in the clothes, not about what other people see, I no longer seek validation from anyone, I wear what I want, regardless of how damn right ridiculous I sometimes look...
So you wear that bright red tartan skirt with pride, if the catwalks are doing it, so am I!

Tales from Granny's Attic

This is the bomber jacket that I waited about a month for, after seeing it on my fav blogger and girl crush Megan Ellaby from PagebyMegan I knew I needed so I seriously searched online every single day for weeks waiting for my size to be back in stock and what a wait that was! But I am so glad that I remained persistent because the day I realised that a size 10 was in fact in stock my little heart skipped a little beat and for a second all was good in the universe.
Okay so it is only a jacket, and I probably shouldn't be getting as dramatic as I am about it but in terms of trend based pieces, this item tickets so many boxes this season, not only is it the perfect autumnal piece but them vibrant colours speak to me on so many different levels and I purposely laid it over an all black canvas to really allow them colours to pop! And do not even get me started on that faux fur collar, in purple, fricken purple, oh my lord!
Jacquard was seen on the catwalks across numerous designers and is something we have seen come onto the high street in full force, whether it be skirts through to boots that you are after you can pick up almost anything now in the Jacquard print! Think your grandmas curtains or that hideous sofa she had when you was a child and you are on the right track when it comes to picking out patterns!
So I said think about your gran and low and behold Asos have nicknamed this trend 'Granny's Attic' taking inspiration from your crazy nan and the way she styles up different textures and them sometimes god awful patterns will help you master this fun loving look! Crushed velvet, faux furs and crazy ass patterns are exactly what we need to be looking at when picking out key pieces for your capsule wardrobe! I picked these velvet trousers up from Next and they have become my saving grace, somewhat different to the standard black jean or black trouser but they are so versatile! They look amazing with a standard plain black turtle neck, like I've worn in this outfit, for a dressed down feel or just as good, if not better, dressed up with a metallic cami and a faux fur bomber jacket, perfecto!
Velvet is everywhere at the minute, and you can not move for it in my wardrobe, so if like me you have gone velvet mad you really are half way there to getting this trend spot on, and various other trends, because lets be honest, this fabric really is everywhere! Also does anything else feel more festive then velvet? As soon as this fabric hits down on the high street we know what time of year it is and what better feeling is there than that?

Why You Should Be Owning the Puffer

Yes I am wearing a Puffer jacket and yes I am loving every second! Finally a trend in fashion that is both stylish and practical, I'm game if you are! The puffer has made a glorious come back this season and boy are the fashion influencers of the world taking full advantage, Rihanna caused a stir when she show cased a huge oversized puffer back in August, but my guess is she just knew how big they were indeed going to become and in true RiRi style wanted to be first in line showing us all how its done.
The AW16 catwalk saw the rise of the puffer with the likes of McQueen and Marques' Almeida walking numerous different puffer jackets down their catwalk; ranging from full on 'duvet' styled ones to chic' cropped ones in eccentric colours! The Puffer was once only cherished by young 5 - 10 year olds running around the playground, but alas they are back mainstreaming with the rest of us and I have a sneaky suspicion you'll all be wearing one in some shape or form come December!
So I've already mentioned the practicality of this coat and when I say it is the comfiest, snug coat I currently own I'm not lying, winter mornings truly are the devil (especially those 6am starts) and the battle of the bed is one we are all competing with each and every day but with a puffer coat I can assure you it will make it that little bit easier! When a new trend comes along that allows us to look like a huge puff ball and still remain stylish is definitely a revolutionary item that well all need hanging in our wardrobe!
The turtle neck is the wardrobe staple that just keeps on giving, I couldn't even tell you how many I currently own, because I actually think it's slightly embarrassing but when you find a silhouette that is perfect for your body shape, stick with it, because these tops are amazing both dressed up or down and I'm still wearing the ones I bought last year, with a few new ones from this A/W!
I have tagged a very similar puffer jacket to the one that I am wearing below but the one I have on is in fact from Primark and it came in at a whopping £18! I'm not going to lie, I have bought 6 coats already this season and we are one month in, so I just couldn't justify spending a lot of money on a puffer jacket when I was not entirely sure if I was going to get my wear out of it, how wrong was I, but despite the price of it, the quality is amazing! Super soft, very warm, looks a lot more expensive then the price tag and way way way affordable for everyone wanting to test the water with this trend! However I already have my beady eye on another one, but the sensible side of my head is already telling me to lay off, we'll see which side wins.
