Urban Street // Topshop

Autumn is well and truly upon us, and with this new season we see all new trends hitting down in our fav high street stores! Topshop, as expected is no exception! The 'Girls' is a new trend based scheme that Topshop are running with this season with the idea in mind that each and everyone of us will be able to identify with one or more of the three Girls that they have created! In theory we should be able to pull together full outfits from each of the rack ups for the girls that represent our own personal style and wardrobe stapes. The three new Girls are; Urban Street, Rocker Chick and Pretty, each individual and different in their own right with subtle links and inspiration take from high end designers, transformed into wearable pieces for A/W16
Throughout the next few weeks I'm going to be posting all about the Girls and how you can style them each up for Autumn, as well as introducing you to trend staples you're going to want in your wardrobe! So with that in mind let me introduce you to the first 'Girl' on my list and that is Urban Street, a brand new twist on the typical tomboy esque styling sees this girls mixing up new colours and textures creating her own micro trend within a big one, no concern given to the basic rules of fashion this girl is most comfortable styling an oversized hoodie with a feminine dress and trainers, just how they did it in the 90's! Her wardrobe staples include motif shirts, denim and sportswear blended together with structured outerwear for good measure. Her carefree attitude pulls this whole look together and gives it the added bit of class and individuality that it rightly deserves.
For me Autumn will alway be my favourite season, I love layering and creating new outfits out of items in my wardrobe, especially them summer dresses most of us simply tuck away until the weather brightens up again! But this trend not only allows you to carry on wearing them feminine dresses, it shows you new ways of getting the most out of them and restyling them to make them look fresh and new again, and who doesn't love a hoodie? Stylish and comfortable is something I can get on board with, especially for them early morning lectures, I'm all about trying new things and new trends whilst adding my own little touch so this is definitely a trend I have succumbed too and will be carrying with me into the coming months!

How to New York

There isn't many places in the world that you or I would get away with an outfit like this other then in New York City and I must admit, come a years time I will probably look at this post and die with embarrassment at what I look like but for now I'm going to stick with my guns and share this remotely extreme outfit with you all!
However, there is a story behind this outfit, it was not suppose to look how it ended up looking!
So when I pack, I always plan everything, down to what jewellery I'll be wearing on the day and how I'll have my hair (I really am that organised when it comes to outfit building and I never ever want to be in a situation on holiday where I'm missing something) so imagine my complete horror when we arrived at the hotel in NYC to find that my hair dryer and my straighteners were not working because of the difference in voltage (something Dominic forgot to mention..) I could have hunted down a voltage converter but after searching for shops I gave it up as a bad job and made do with my hair, but, if you have a fringe like mine you will understand just how difficult 'making do' can be, thank the lord I had not had it cut before we left for America or I would have been screwed, literally! Instead I ended up sporting this very flattering side fringe all week - sense the sarcasm?
Note to self, take a voltage converter next time you head to America and save yourself utter stress! So my hair, instead of looking effortlessly curly and Manhattan like, ended up looking somewhat 'child at the end of the school day' like, oh how lost we are without our heated appliances...
But it doesn't end there, let me move on to my choice of footwear.. I actually bought this dress for my 21st birthday and wore it on a night out down the Avenues with my best friends, and I have to say it looked fabulous, paired with a silver court heel and my favourite city Zara bag, so when I came to style it for New York I was going to keep it very simplistic and give it a 'New Yorker heading for cocktails with the girls' kinda vibe with a pair of black heels and a subtle curl to my hair, however, due to walking around Central Park all day my feet were ripped to shreds, and I actually couldn't bare to wear any of the shoes that I had brought with me other then my converse, less Manhattan socialite more rebelling teenager..
Its actually quite laughable isn't it, instead of looking stylish I ended up looking remotely crazy, and I decided to add the choker for an extra cray cray effect
because its all or nothing right?
And do you know what, New Yorkers love a statement look, I definitely could not walk the streets of Hull looking like this but the amount of compliments I got was unbelievable
So in hindsight, its definitely important to just go with it and appear confident, because who cares what your wearing as long as you feel fab in it
(It would have been nice to have a pair of straighteners on hand though..)

Manhattan Girl

I'm not going to lie, this hiatus has definitely been what I've needed and to say I've had a fabulous summer would be an understatement, NYC definitely been one of the highlights, shortly followed by by 21st birthday!
I can honestly say I have never been anywhere where I have felt more at home before, I belong on 5th ave picking up lunch and browsing Gucci.. (in my dreams). But in all seriousness I almost started to imagine what it would be like to move to NYC and set up camp! Its definitely on the bucket list and something I would love to achieve in the next few years!
I don't think I would ever get board of that skyline or the hustle and bustle of the entire city, theres something exceptional about the whole place and I'm already itching to head back!
Ps I hope you like the new layout! Thought I'd mix things up for the new season and inject something different into
