MY TEENAGE SELF
19/09/2017
When this particular
brand emailed me and asked if I would be up for a collaboration my inner
teenage self jumped for joy, was you anyone if you didn’t own a Gola bag back in
the day? I had a black and red one (its always been red with me) but it wasn’t the
standard Gola bag it was slightly different (had to be different, even when
following the crowd) and I remember nagging and nagging my Mum and Dad to buy
me it before I started Secondary School! Don’t get me wrong it probably wasn’t styled
very well but I most certainly put it through its paces and it lasted me a long
time! It’s funny how particular brands can evoke such emotion and memories,
with that in mind I thought I would share some of the things that have inspired
my style throughout my life and things that have influence the way my personal
style is today!
I have always been into clothes, I can’t quite remember when it started, maybe it was sometime around the age of 5 or 6 when my auntie would take me into clothes shops. As a manger of Topshop at the time she would often be called into work briefly on her days off, coincidentally when I was with her, meaning I was wondering around Topshop from an early age (clearly no surprise where I have ended up working then). I remember just how much of an influence she was on me and my style as a youngster, and how I loved raiding her wardrobe as a teenager, this is definitely where my obsession with clothes and fashion began.
Throughout school
my love of fashion only increased, generally to the dismay of others and the
sheer dissatisfaction of all of my teachers (Sorry Mr Liddle but I was simply expressing my creative flare with my huge black vintage diamond encrusted studded
earrings, and no, I will not remove them). Its hard to be individual at school
because we are pushed and pulled into the direction that the school board deems
as acceptable however I always knew who I was and how I wanted to present
myself. I was very much influenced by the likes of Florence Welch, Miley Cyrus
and Taylor Swift. I loved vintage jewellery and pearls paired with grungy statement
tops and black jeans. Military boots were a staple in my wardrobe as well as
customised cropped sweatshirts and a huge swiping fringe. It was only in
college that I truly hit the ground running with the way I wanted to dress.
Music has always
played a huge role in my life, I sing and play the guitar so I have always
taken huge inspiration from musicians; fast forward to now and I take
inspiration from everywhere, whether that be music, film, tv, magazines, books,
my work place, online, bloggers, people in the street – you name it I take
inspiration from it. I find this to be the most fun aspect of been a blogger! Red has always been my colour so it was just a natural selection for me to pick these Gola Classics Harrier Trainer in Lollipop Red (What a name!! Lollipop Red!) I paired these trainers with my current fav trousers from Topshop, one of Dom's plain white t-shirts and a trusty leather jacket for a true causal feel, a look I am oh so in love with at the minute!

TONI AND GUY // PT 2
12/09/2017
Hello you beautiful people and welcome back to You Can Call Me P! If you've been keeping up with me on Instagram @youcancallmep_ you will have seen that I recently had my hair restyled by the fabulous Toni and Guy team in Hull. And what a wonderful job they did!
When we initially approached the idea of me working with Toni and Guy I made it very clear that I didn't want my hair to be coloured, my ginger hair has almost become my trade mark so I was obviously somewhat sceptical, oh and I was 'growing it long'. But how the times have changed since then! And I am so glad I managed to, quite frankly, grow some balls! I trust the guys and gals completely at Toni and Guy so it just seemed like the natural progression to let Gareth have some free reign over my hair colour and boy am I glad because this colour is just insane! I experiment with my look constantly, if not daily, so why not do something different with my hair, and having now done it I have no idea what I was scared about in the first place!
I have continued to have my hair enhanced with the Loreal Professional Dia Richesses Hi-Visability Tone on Tone Hair Colour in the shade Copper, however this time I decided I needed something a little bit different and thankfully this is what Gareth came up with!
If, like me, you are a little shy about getting your hair coloured but it is something you want to do I highly recommend that you pop into Toni and Guy and talk to one of the colour technicians! Without a doubt I can guarantee that they will put any concerns you have at ease and you will walk out having booked your hair transformation in!
Despite this amazing collaboration I have to admit one thing; I am a lazy hair dooer. I love my hair, I love styling it, but I am lazy as hell. Which brings me right back round to the overall cut of it, it has stayed the same for so long because despite having a fringe I am still able to pile it high on my head without a second thought! I have very long layers, for this exact reason. In the fast paced world that we all currently live in, unfortunately I do not have the time to always perfectly style it so having a cut that is both practical and fabulous is a win win in my book!
When getting it cut I generally ask for a basic trim to ensure the ends remain healthy and to lighten the load a little bit, my hair grows fast and thick so it does generally need at least an inch off. For my layers, I ask for texture, but never too choppy, this is to ensure the hair is lifted and light, especially with how thick it can sometimes feel! The girls always style it on point, finishing off with a few curls made by straighteners (the only way I like to curl my hair!)
I think as a whole this hair colour is definitely up there in my top 3, I regularly wear my hair in a bun, the transition of colours from my fringe into the swirl of the bun is just amazing and I have received so many compliments on this hair colour!
If you need a new do, look no further then the Toni and Guy Hull (WOW that rhymed) (Kim hit me up, I think we have a jingle in there somewhere..). I swear, they will sort you right out and you'll wonder why you've never knocked on there door before!

How Long Is Too Long?
01/09/2017
I have been somewhat conflicted about posting this due to its sheer brutality and its absolute honesty and I guess because of the fact that I have never allowed myself to be this open and exposed on my blog before, but since falling out with my blog and loosing my sense of identity I realised that I have been going about this all wrong. As a child and as a teen I regularly wrote my thoughts down in a journal, my raw undeniable feelings, so I’ve decided rather then discussing fashion and style all of the time, which is something I do like talking about, but in all fairness how many times can I discuss the same jeans? I’m going to discuss some more personal subjects and issues that I guarantee will resonate with a lot of you!
This particular post has been sat in the ‘Notes’ section on my phone for several weeks now, I wrote it just after my birthday, and I guess today something within me finally clicked, maybe it’s the beginning of a new month or the turn of a new season, or maybe Liam Gallagher's new single has seriously struck a cord with me, whatever it is, I decided it was time to air my thoughts and move on;
Life is life. And as a part of life we as human beings are often incapable of agreeing with one another, we have all fallen out with someone along the way, whether that be with a girl or a boy, whether that be through friendship or relationship and whether that be through fault of yours or mine. Regardless of how it happens it always hits hard.
I’m a thinker, I think about everything, I think and then I overthink and then I think again, it’s a fairly annoying trait but one I have grown used too. Whenever a fall out happens, or someone I once doted on is no longer there I rack my brain wondering what it was I did that caused them to leave or how, if given the opportunity I would resolve the issue. And I have been successful in rekindling lost friendships, admittedly never to their reining glory, but instead to a level that is acceptable for both parties. But what about those people that are better left in the past? How long do we continue to try? And how long really is too long?
For a girl who found it easier to get on with boys throughout her childhood/teens you can probably guess were my troubles started. My own stupid naivety often got the better of me and these ‘boy friends’ were only ever friends, whom I adored whole heartedly, just in a way that was never enough. I have lost more then my fair share of friends throughout the years and I still have memories stashed away from each and every one of them. I still see some of these people today out and about and it doesn’t get easier, the loss of a friendship is a strange one, no one ever really sees it coming, and no one ever really knows how they will react to it. I reacted to one in a particularly bad way, and if you’re reading this now, I am very sorry, I should have swallowed my own pride when I had the chance, but I didn’t, I responded in a way that was cruel and unintentional, words often betray their user and if I could take it back, I would, but I can’t, so we live and we learn, and I’ll tell you something, I have dealt with things far better since that day, with much more consideration and deliberation about the other person, and that is all down to you. I have not made it easy, I have thought about myself and my own needs time and time again, but, my own needs no longer come into it and with that in mind this is me finally accepting the loss of a friendship that will never be the same, and this is me finally letting it lie, something I should have done a lot sooner.
There’s only love here.
